Darkes Manager Notes Post Solihull Moors

“I’m so proud of the players following our first win of the season against Solihull Moors. We’ve worked hard and it has been a challenge to build almost a brand new squad from the start of the season. However, it all makes it worthwhile when we are able to continue to improve and show what we are really capable of. It has been a real squad effort with everyone contributing significantly over the course of the season so far and I believe that this win will bring us closer together.

The win was no fluke and the girls performed admirably to secure the 3-1 victory, we could have even won by a greater margin. Phoebe Hallam had an excellent debut while I’m pleased that Sarah Saxon could score as one of the few players to have stuck with the club through this period. Bekah Hunt also made a good cameo for her debut so I’m positive for the future. There are some important games coming up so it is vital that we continue our progress.”

The next of those important games comes in the form of a trip to Leicester City Ladies in what Darke describes as a ‘vital’ matchup in the FAWPL, as the Millers look to return to winning ways after defeat over the border in Wales against TNS last time out.

“Sunday saw us make the long trip to Wales to play TNS but unfortunately, we were unable to gain a result, although a stronger second half performance saw Bryher Taylor score her first goalwhich sparked some hope of a comeback,” Darke added.

“We have been able to deliver a more consistent squad in our more recent matches and our team is looking much more settled.

“This Sunday is a vital game as we play Leicester City Ladies away from home.

“We currently sit ahead of them in the league and it is important that we achieve a positive result to give us a greater hope of staying in this division.”

Darke has called on his team to be ruthless in attack when they take on the Foxes and believes that by harnessing that threat in the final third, they could record their first away league victory of the season.

“We will need to play with an attacking approach and try to put our opponents under real pressure,” he continued, Recent matches have seen us show much greater improvement in our all-around game so we will look to play with purpose and speed in order to break our opponents down.”
